"Heat and Power from Landfill Gas: Johnson & Johnson's
Experience"
ALZA Pharmaceuticals, a division of Johnson & Johnson, finds that
using landfill gas (LFG) to generate electricity is a cost-effective way
to meet their commitment to lower thier greenhouse gas emissions. Even
without net metering ability for their excess generation, this project
has been a solid financial winner with a pre-tax savings of nearly
$1,000,000 while fulfilling 71% of ALZA's GHG target.
"The Solar Services Model: An Innovative Financing Approach to On-site Solar
Photovoltaics"
Staples is one of the first major corporations to utilize the solar services
business model, in which the power customer hosts an on-site generation system and
purchases its power but does not own the PV equipment. By eliminating up-front
capital expenses, this innovative model provides a financially attractive means to
purchase on-site green power.
"Johnson & Johnson's Experience: Executing a Large Corporate Purchase of RECs"
In order to enable multiple business units to aggregate their demand
and purchase green electricity at a more competitive price, Johnson &
Johnson worked with a Renewable Energy Certificate supplier to forge a
single contract covering all 12 groups involved and granting them a
six-month window with fixed price quotes. This approach provided an
efficient, cost-effective means to expand their clean energy purchases
and pursue emissions reduction goals.
"Parlaying Efficiency into Green Power: Staples' Experience with Optimizing GHG Performance"
Staples used the savings they were able to capture through cost-cutting
energy efficency measures to finance the purchase of renewable energy
certificates. By linking together these two initiatives, they were able
to create a double dividend reduction in their greenhouse gas emissions.
"Interface: Landfill Gas Conversion"
InterfaceFLOR Commercial in LaGrange, Georgia will convert
methane gas from the local landfill into a renewable energy source to
fuel two heaters and a boiler. Landfill gas will replace approximately
20% of the natural gas used by the manufacturing facility.

By participating in the Chicago Climate Exchange® and the U.K. Emissions Trading Scheme, DuPont is pursuing its climate targets and several other business goals.
